Why Kanban isn't enough: The blind spot of task handoff

Kanban boards revolutionized work management. Seeing what stage a task is in is now very easy. But there's one question Kanban can't answer: Who currently has this task?

When you look at a Kanban board, you see a card in the "In Progress" column. But are three people working on it, or has it been forgotten there for a week? A name might be on the card, but that doesn't mean that person accepted the task. Kanban's biggest blind spot appears during task handoff. When a task moves from Alex to Maya, this transition is usually recorded as a comment or label change on the board. But in real life, task handoff is a process that requires acceptance from the other party.
